Answers:

Our system, Universal Shorei Goju Karate System, requires that all classes be taught by master instructors.  Whether or not a student has obtained a black belt, they must meet requirements for a master instructor in order to fully teach our classes unsupervised.  We do allow under ranks to lead classes, during exercise periods, as a foundation for training them in becoming an instructor. This process teaches under ranks how to delegate during training sessions, disciplinary actions and controlling groups.  Upon obtaining the rank of black belt in our system, black belts must go through and complete what we call "The 5 chambers of training" before they're allowed to fully teach a class in our system.  At certain points in chamber training they will meet the requirements for becoming an assistant to a master instructor.  No other school we know of does this.  The five chambers of black belt training takes approximately 3 to 5 years to reach the half way mark.  So when you see someone teaching our classes you'll see a black belt with a minimum of ten years of black belt training under their belt or someone in the 5 Chambers of Training.  Also, we are primarily the only school that has our system fully documented, standardized and certified as a Trade School.  Most school have only one training manual or single sheet hand outs for their students which may not be official data for their system, but a duplication of someone else's system.  Also, it depends on the reason you want to purchase a program. Some clients simply purchase because the location is convenient and feel that all karate schools are all the same. Some enroll because our price or tuition comes with more advantages than others. Some purchase because we have a Shihan Master Instructor that is well known accross the country and feels more secure knowing that. Some simply purchase because a friend recommended us. So, primarily the answer to your question may be "It depends on whether or not we have what you're looking to spend your money for".
The park districts, primarily, don't have master instructors teaching their classes.  You will find very few.  The park districts are also subsidized by city funding to absorb most or all of their overhead expenses.  Our classes are taught by master instructors as we know for a fact we have to produce a more quality and superior product for the money we get while the park districts only concern themselves mostly with just having a program.  There is no primary goal or objective by the park districts to produce a quality product.  Their main concern is keeping individuals off the streets.  Actually if you did the math, you'll find us quite inexpensive for the work we do and especially for the superior products we generate.  For instance, our regular plan for a child is $80.00 per month for 12 two hour classes.  If you divide the amount you pay to us($80/24) by the 24 hours we work, you would get an hourly pay of approximately $3.33 per hour.  Like you, we have to pay expenses out of the tuition fees we receive.  I don't think anyone today would work for the hourly fees that we're paid per hour.  If they would, we would like to talk to them about positions we have available.  Also, when you factor in our discount plans, the hourly pay reduces tremendously.  So, before you label us expensive, please do the math and see if you would work for what we're actually being paid by you.
Universal Shorei-Goju is a system and not a style. There are 5 styles within the Universal Shorei-Goju System. We redesigned this system of Karate to be slightly different from the system that was taught to Master Peacock from Master Jones, from a style of fighting to an art of not fighting, we could no longer call it Shorei Goju Karate.  Therefore, we adopted the name Universal Shorei Goju Karate.  Universal added to the system states that we use any means necessary to disable an assailant, as we have now designed an approach to personal security that prevents an assailant from ever completing their attack. The Shihan Master at 3 Circles School of Karate is only 5' 2" tall, and the approach he uses for personal security have to be more sufficient than that of an individual 5'8" or more.  To have been world champion and nation champion so many times, we're positive our approach to personal security is much better than most.
This system is based on an approach or a designed beginning.  In most arts of karate, the question "What do I do first?", tends to sprout hesitation in a defendant.  Our system has answered that question with a designed approach.  When an assailant approaches, what are my objectives and how do I accomplish them quickly and effectively without sacrificing momentum or advantage?  Most other martial artists and martial arts schools base their advantage merely on the physical abilities of combat between two or more individuals of equal height, weight and strength.  If an individual is indeed more physical than you, would he not surely overcome you?  We therefore took the advantages of being more physical practically out of the factor of personal security in this system.
This system is based on being smarter than the attacker. Being more knowledgeable about the body and how it mechanically propels itself is our advantage.  We also stress maintaining a prescribed physical conditioning that is superior in nature. We therefore use laws of physics, trigonometry and geometry along with a thorough knowledge of body mechanics to accomplish our goal of personal security.  The body is limited in how it moves to produce or generate force or power, so our system concentrate on keeping an assailant in a limited mobility state as to impair their ability to attack or do damage.  This reduces the amount of physical resistance you have to deal with in order to subdue or disable an assailant.  The key is knowing what to do first, second and third.  No other school teaches that!
Not really.  This is a difficult question to answer as learning depends on the motivation of the student and their level of focus and concentration.  Although this system reduces the amount of physical resistance, there's still is a lot of body and mental conditioning that must be obtained and maintained for it to work effectively and sufficiently.  If a person is not willing to go through the conditioning process, then they will not be able to apply this system well enough even though they may have learned the system thoroughly.  The whole system is based on three geometric objects; a circle, a triangle and a square.  There is a mathematic factor that we use for the approach which is called the two fifth (2/5) theory.  So the system is simplex yet complex.  You can make straight A's in any school or institution, but if you fail to apply the knowledge you've learned to solve the problem you have, then the quality education means absolutely nothing.
Our system, like all the other true martial arts systems, knocks an assailant down and can disable them and or critically damage them.  There's no system of karate better than another.  It solely depends on the individual's motivation and dedication that's training in a particular system or style. Also there must be a teacher who has the ability to transfer effective knowledge and skills to that individual.  Simply because a person is a champion in a particular category in tournament competition, doesn't make them automatically a good teacher, instructor or coach.  The Chicago Bulls were six time world champions, but that didn't make them any better than any other team.  They simply had individuals on their team who were more motivated, dedicated, hungry and worked harder to enhance their skills and game plans.  Additionally, they had a coach that knew how to use the talent he had on his team and how to transfer his ideas and strategies to them.  Every team knew and understood the triangle defense  of the Bulls and also the Bulls offensive system.  However, these guys were just set on making  that system work well and had the hunger for accomplishing their goals.  If someone tells you that one style of martial art is better than another or that you need a mixture of a lot of different arts to be effective, then you should know right away that that individual has no clue as to what they're talking about nor do they know anything about martial arts.
A good amount of patience, a small down payment, validating personal information and a signed commitment or contract for training and someone to be trained.
No!  You have 30 days to satisfy your full enrollment fee.  In other words, you can bring in a lesser amount, whatever your budget allows, and then the remainder in the next 30 day period.  You won't however, receive your uniform pak or equipment pak before your enrollment fee is satisfied, but you will be allowed to start your training classes immediately.
To cover the cost of the uniform, training equipment pak, and your 1st month tuition fee.
We have both types, contractual and non-contractual plus several incentive plans.
Our contractual plans are for 1 full year only (12 months).  You then can renew for another term if you desire to complete your training.  You will not need to pay another enrollment fee if you decide to re-enroll for an additional year.
Yes!  However, there may be some restrictions and exceptions or additional charges that may apply.  Some plans may require additional fees based on the extra accounting or additional processing that may have to be done.
Our main focus is on the discipline factor.  A satisfactory level of confidence must be obtained in order to defend yourself effectively, sufficiently and completely.  Your focus must be drawn to developing superior human abilities along with respect for those training you and helping you to train.  Although they show martial artists trainees alone in fields and on mountain tops, there is no greater training element than a good training partner.  You and your partners become a team and each one takes the other to new levels of expertise.  You therefore learn respect for each other and others around you as you realize that your advancement depends a lot on them and your relationship with them.  From that point, honor sets in along with other character building values.  None of this happens if discipline is not acquired and nurtured.
Our center is more like a family center, however, all we have is karate here.  You see, karate is a way of life, not just a part of it.  Everyday you have some type of confrontation, whether it be in the business place or personal.  During those confrontations, you try to position yourself to an area or place that will give you the most advantage.  Whether you're talking to your girl friend, wife, mom or dad, or just a friend during confrontations you want an advantage.  So in this center, We decided families should have an advantage when they utilize and patronize the center.  We have a mini movie theatre, a restaurant, an exercising room, lounge areas, training floors that can be converted to a dance hall, computer lab, snack shop, and practically a one stop center for families.  It boils down to meeting the needs of your clients as you would meet the challenge of an opponent. We also teach Cheerleading, Tumbling, Dance, Karobics, and other family programs to better serve you. However, the mentality we train in, no matter what the program is, is the mentality of KARATE!
Children can enroll as young as 3 years old with an interview.  If we can hold their attention for at least 20 minutes, then we feel we can teach them.  We have classes for teenagers and adults also. However, the average age we start at is 4 years old and up.
We don't.  We don't try to imitate other programs and activities in the area.  We simply listen to our clients as to what they need or want in a program and determine whether or not we can provide them with their requests.  we don't want to design a program and then try to sell it to someone, we want to design a program around what our clients say they need or want and then provide them with those necessities within the realm of my business policies.  Our Shihan Master has a degree in Business Management, Design Engineering, and Commercial Art.  So, we don't feel we need to mimic anyone other school out there.  Although you can learn from anyone, we prefer to to try some of our own ideas first.  One best idea is listening.  However, our karate program is very much like a dictatorship, we have our methods of operations and our training processes and will not change them for anyone for any reason.  Why?  The methods we use are very effective and works very, very well.  However, our clients and customers do  evaluate our program as the best in the city.  To us that's a mouth full and we have to respect what they say and continue to maintain that status.  Some of our competitors are our best advertisement.  After prospects have viewed other programs in other schools, they settle on our program because of the quality we demand and provide solutions to and for their problems.
Don't let our Shihan Master's size fool you.  Karate has nothing to do with height or any physical attribute.  They didn't call him"Ben the giant killer" for nothing.  He never tried to overpower his opponents, he simply out smarted them by primarily using 100% aggression in his attacks or defenses along with a fool proof strategy of overcoming the size obstacle.  All of his attacks or defenses were based on angles, trigonometry and body mechanics, which always worked well for hin.  You'll find his name in several books in the libraries because of his domination over larger and taller opponents.  So he can teach you a great deal!! You just have to be prepared to learn.
Shihan Master Peacock has written several training manuals that explains what you will learn.  We have three (3) training manuals at present which is being broken down into six manuals.  Our second level test which is yellow belt takes about a week for a candidate to complete.  From that you should know there's a lot of material, both physically, mentally and orally that has to be obtained and retained within a three (3) month period to pass our exam.  We are also designing the manuals into CD version for visual training as well as documented training.
No!  Our contracts are final and cannot be broken for any reason.  That's why it's called a contract.  You can, however, sell your contract to another person or allow another person to use the classes you have not taken.
That's not really true.  Everyday, you make your children go to school and we know primarily they don't like that.  However, you should be the one making the decisions on your child's activities, not your child.  It's a critical mistake to let your child determine whether or not he or she wants to attend a program in which you're actually investing in their social management skills.  You should not allow them to make any decision on any social direction until they're mature enough and have experienced life enough to accept the consequences of that decision.  The child hasn't lived long enough to be in a life making decision authority.  If you don't gain control over your child at the molding age, it will be extremely difficult to gain control when they're older.  We really sympathize with parents bringing their children to us and look to us for help to regain control over their children again and for them to not realize how they really lost it.  Most of them say "I've always supported him and let him do whatever he says he likes to do and go where he likes to go and I paid for it."  "So why is he like this now?"  Well, he's like that because he's now made the decision he no longer wants to listen to you any more and wants you to support and pay for that also.
Most likely there will be some type of injury defined with this type of activity.  Whether it be mental anguish or some sort of physical injury.  However, with the professionalism we use in training our students, the level of injury is far less than that of skate boarding, baseball, football or basketball.  We have an excellent history of no major injuries occurring during our training processes, although our training process is extremely and highly intensive.  There may be some minor bruising or scratches.  Our secret is our commitment to discipline, body conditioning, flexibility and superior control of our techniques.  We have excellent instructors and trainers who can anticipate situations that may result in injuries and therefore will stop or pause the activity that would be giving high odds to the possibility of injury.
The best explanation for this question is for you to come in for a visit and make your own evaluation.  We wouldn't still be in business for over 23 years if the negative things you've heard were at all true or were a part of our policy.  From our experience, most people that have complained about our organization are those who did not expect a black owned business to be well organized.  They didn't expect us to have a lawyer, collection agencies, rules, regulation and policies of operation that placed responsibility on both the customer and our organization.  They expected to have options over and above what they were paying for and when they found different, they created negative rumors about our organization, which was the only way they felt they had available to fight back.  We cannot satisfy every customer, that's why we don't have all of them.  However, we do have customers that has been with us for over 10 years.  So, my best advice to you and many others like you who may be struggling with this paradox, is to see for yourself and not listen to the negative things you've heard about us.  We have customers now who were told one thing about us and found none of it to be true. This is a business and we do just that, business.
Our studio teaches a full and complete range of the martial arts to both children and adults.  However, children and adults have separate training periods. Beginner children classes are scheduled 5:30 pm til 7:15 on Monday and Wednesday while the Advance Children classes are scheduled on Tuesday and Thursdays at the same time. Beginner adult classes are being scheduled, for next year, on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 til 9:00 pm along with the adult advance class. We've discovered that our training process, the amount of space available, and the number of teachers we have allows us to schedule those classes simultaneously without adverse affect on superior quality. Normally, the adult beginners class would be scheduled on Monday and Wednesdays from 7:30 til 9:00 pm.
The maximum times you may come in to train per week is 3. Over the 30 years plus that I
have been teaching, I have evaluated the training we go through and with the intensity in which we train would cause or promote serious damage to the body, both physically and mentally if the body doesn't get ample time to regenerate, relax and reconfigure itself for the next level of conditioning. If you don't give the body the time it needs to recoup, it may go into shock and possibly collapse.  Coming more times than 3 per week also promotes a class atmosphere of chaos. The quality of training diminishes when it is attempted in a chaotic atmosphere and I cannot and will not give room to sublevel training at my dojo.
Yes, we test for color and level ranks.  We test every three months, whether you feel you're ready or not.  Our tests help us understand if our training process is effective or if you are comprehending the data given to you.  Our scheduled test starts the last week of January, 2005 and then every three months thereafter.  Fees for test are $10.00 if you fail the test.  It could cost up to $250.00 if you pass the test depending on the rank you are a candidate for.  If you fail a yellow or blue belt test the cost is $10.00.  If you fail a green belt test the cost is $15.00.  If you fail a purple belt test, the cost is $20.00.  If you fail a brown or black belt test, the cost is $25.00.  If you pass a yellow or blue belt test, the cost to you is $35.00.  If you pass a green belt test, the cost to you is $40.00.  If you pass a purple belt test, the cost to you is $45.00.  If you pass a brown belt test, the cost to you is $50.00.  If you pass a black belt test, the cost to you is $50.00 plus a $200.00 black belt registration fee.
Our Day Camp begins the first week in June and ends the 2nd week in August every year.
No, there's no such thing as defending yourself using basic karate or self defense.  Basic means the starting point or foundation.  You can learn to start a car, but you won't be able to go very far in it if you don't learn how to drive it and manipulate it.  Knowing what a hammer is, is far, far from knowing how to use it.  We would primarily be putting your child in more danger if we gave him only basic information and then thrust him into a victimized situation without knowledge of how to use his tools well.  Also, you can't determine who your child's attackers are going to be based on the amount you pay for their training.  Their attacker may be a person who may be very experienced in the art of karate or a very experience street fighter.  The amount of tuition you pay does not and will not determine the ability of an assailant that may attack your child.
Whoever told you that bit of information was one of those people who spreads rumors without any idea of what they're talking about.  1.) There's nothing wrong with washing plastic utensils if its done properly and sanitary.  2.) We don't take the time to rewash plastic utensils unless we were cooking with them.  It would cost us more to pay someone to wash them than to purchase new ones. I'm sure you don't throw away your plastic cooking utensils.  3.) You should be more concerned about those who haven't been seen washing purchased plastic utensils.  Plastic utensils are stored in warehouses by the thousands and are subjected to rats, roaches and other pests that comes in contact with them.  Rats cannot control their body functions like humans, so they urinate and defecate where ever they are.  If a rat is somehow on a box of plastic forks or spoons and urinates, chances are that box is bacteria infected or virus infected if the pest has a cold or virus.  Unfortunately, stores don't mark boxes that's been in contact with rats or other pests.  So we're trained by the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois to take every precaution available to curb the spread of bacteria and viruses.  If the cellophane window on a box of forks or spoons isn't sealed tightly enough, rat urine can infect the product inside without any indication.  Even if the window is sealed tightly enough and a rat or pest has crawled over the box and you open it with your hands to get the product out, you've infected the product yourself.  We check our purchased utensil boxes for any sign of possible infection and if we can't come to an absolute conclusion on the purchased product sanitation status, we will wash and sanitize the utensils before serving them to a customer. If there's signs of pest infection, we simply toss the entire product.  To make a long story short, we don't assume a purchased product is sanitary simply because the box isn't opened.  We try to make sure all our foods, utensil and products are handled properly and are clean and sanitized before we give it to a customer for use regardless of the condition of the box it's sold in. To answer your question, no, we don't ask our customers to return plastic utensils they've eaten with.
No. That's why they call it a contract, because you can't get out of it until term. If you could get out of it, it wouldn't be a contractual agreement. Next time do a complete research of your investment, don't simply settle for the cheapest price or the convenience of attending classes whenever you want to. Don't make evaluations simply on phone conversation prices or what the person tells you the program is, check the school, the website (If they have one) and ask around before you commit. Sorry!
Didn't find the question or questions you wanted to know the answer to.  Well, just email your questions to us and we'll send you an answer as soon as possible.
